At the One Ocean Summit, which is taking place in Brest (northwestern France), the French President Emmanuel Macron will address the audience. World leaders, scientists, and representatives of major corporations gather to discuss efforts for the protection of the marine environment. You can watch FRANCE24’s live coverage.

Although the five connected oceans of the world cover about 70% of the planet, they regulate the climate and nurture millions of species. They also allow for global trade. However, many people are still not aware of their importance and do not have adequate protection.

France’sMacron hopes for “ambitious commitments”, from “a small but determined group of over 40 countries and multinational corporations, including European maritime transport giants Maersk CMA CGM Hapag-Lloyd and MSC.
