FREEPORT, Maine (AP). A Maine-based organization that manages a popular coastal farm, environmental center, and training facility plans to open an education, research, and training facility.
Wolfe’s Neck Farm Foundation will receive a $2.5million loan from the federal government for their Smith Center for Education and Research. In a Jan 26 statement, the U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that the center will allow Wolfe’s Neck to expand their ability to engage with charitable, educational, and scientific activities related alternative farming techniques, conservation management and education, and public stewardship.
Wolfe’s Neck will be able to expand the number of people who are able to participate in workshops and seminars through the center. It will also have a teaching kitchen and classroom space.
Wolfe’s Neck stated that the Smith Center was named after the original donors and long-time owners of the farm. The farm was established over 60 years ago.
