Maine farm and environmental center to support education mission

FREEPORT, Maine (AP), A Maine organization that runs a popular Maine coastal farm and environmental center plans to launch an education and training facility.

The federal government will loan $2.5 million to Wolfes Neck Farm Foundation for its Smith Center for Education and Research. In a Jan 26 statement, the U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that the center will allow Wolfes Neck to expand their ability to engage with charitable, educational, and scientific activities related alternative farming techniques, conservation management and education, and public stewardship.

Wolfes Neck is also expected to use the center to increase the number who can attend events such as seminars and workshops. It will also include a teaching kitchen, classroom space, and other facilities.

Wolfes Neck stated that the Smith Center is named in honor of the original donors and long-time farm owners. The farm was established over 60 years ago.
