Maine farm and environmental center to support education mission

FREEPORT, Maine (AP). An organization that manages a popular Maine coastal farm and environmental center plans to open a research, education and training facility.

Wolfe’s Neck Farm Foundation has been awarded a $2.5 Million loan by the federal government for its Smith Center for Education and Research. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Jan. 26 that the center will allow Wolfe’s Neck’s ability to engage in charitable and educational activities related to alternative farming techniques and conservation management.

Wolfe’s Neck will be able to expand the number of people who are able to participate in workshops and seminars through the center. It will also include a teaching kitchen, classroom space, and other facilities.

Wolfe’s Neck stated that the Smith Center was named after the original donors and long-time owners of the farm. The farm was founded more than 60 years earlier.
