KOTA BARU, 6 March: The Environment and Water Ministry (Kasa), has placed several mobile pump locations at predetermined locations in order to solve the problem of standing floodwaters throughout the state. This includes Kampung Tersang and Rantau Panjang.
Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man Tuan Man, the Minister for the area, said that the pumps would pump out any standing water. He added that it took a while for water to recede from low lying areas so pumps would be used in areas where floodwaters are frequent.
He also stated that RM16 million was requested for the maintenance and operation of the water lock at Kemasin-Semarak’s Integrated Agricultural Development Area.
After officiating at an event in Madrasah Haji Junoh Kampung Paya Keranji, he revealed that seven of the 10 water locks were not working during his last week’s working visit.
This could be because they were built in 1980s and need extensive maintenance.
The Finance Ministry has received the allocation requested to address this issue. He stated that the water locks are crucial and that we will discuss it.
He stated that if water locks weren’t fixed or maintained, they could be damaged and have a negative impact on the entire area, including submerged crops. Bernama
