MEECS (Michigan Environmental Education curriculum Support) contains seven Michigan-specific modules that allow students in grades 3-12 the opportunity to learn about Michigan’s economy through inquiry-oriented, data-based lessons in Science or Social Studies. The units have been field-tested in over 200 Michigan classrooms. You can use the units individually, add them to a school’s multiyear science curriculum, or combine them to create an integrated science course.
Each unit in the MEECS Units has engaging, hands on lessons that encourage students to participate and inquire. Units are designed for students to gain a greater appreciation of Michigan’s environment as well as its role in Michigan’s economy. MEECS aligns to meet the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations in Science and Social Studies, as well as a crosswalk alignment with Michigan Science Standards.

Grand Valley State University and Public Broadcasting Service teamed up with MEECS to create online support module for MEECS Units II. These online support videos show MEECS lessons in action with students. They can also be used to provide virtual professional development for units.
