LOWER PROVIDENCE (PA) The Methacton school district has been transformed into a mask-optional environment. This is in response to federal health officials’ recent announcement of a change in recommendation for face coverings after a decrease in coronavirus transmission in different parts.
According to Methacton officials, students, staff and visitors in district buildings would no more be required to wear a mask for COVID-19 mitigation purposes starting Saturday.
In a message to the community, Superintendent David Zerbe stated that the Methacton Board of School Directors’ position has always been that if it was safe to remove masking requirements it would swiftly take the necessary steps to do so.
Zerbe stated that Zerbe and the school board decided that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new guidance “provides a positive reset of the metrics used for determining levels and the associated masking recommendation.”
Zerbe wrote, “As a school entity which has followed the CDC guidance since the beginning of the pandemic,”
Zerbe thanked all the Methacton schools for “everything they have done to mitigate COVID risks in our community.”
Methacton’s announcement comes as nearby Montgomery County school district are also moving to a mask-optional atmosphere in light of the latest CDC recommendations. These recommendations state that masks should be worn in areas with low and moderate transmission levels, but are not mandatory.
Montgomery County is currently in moderate tier.
