Moodle Academy launches two new courses: Introduction to Moodle and Moodle Development Environment.

Moodle Academy, the hub for learning everything about online education with Moodle, announces the launch of two new courses – Set up your Moodle Development Environment and Introduction to Moodle.

Jessica Gramp, Moodle Academy Product Manager, explains that our goal is to make Moodle easier for everyone. Moodle Academy will expand to offer new professional learning opportunities to administrators and developers, in addition to supporting educators.

Introduction to Moodle

Richard Lefroy developed the concept. Introduction to Moodle course provides a high-level overview of how Moodle works and is suitable for all users new to Moodle – educators, trainers, administrators and developers – or those who want to understand Moodles structure and feature set in more detail. This course is approximately one hour long and covers Moodle’s commitment to open-source, security, and accessibility. This course gives a general overview of key features of Moodle LMS, including permissions, user roles, and enrolments. It also covers key elements of a Moodle course such as the gradebook and activities. It also discusses Moodle’s flexible and extensible structure, its use of plugins, and how the Moodle community contributes.

It is recommended for developers who want to move on to Moodle. Moodle Development Environment course.

Your Moodle Development Environment is ready to go

Your Moodle Development Environment is ready to goThis course is a beginner course that Rajneel and Jonathan Deavers have created. It will help PHP developers to get comfortable with the Moodle development environment. It takes approximately three hours to complete. It will introduce participants the Moodle developer community, basic development tasks, and standards. This includes setting up a Moodle development area; Moodle source code management; Moodle check tools; creating a basic plug-in from a template; as well as installing and uninstalling plug-ins.

Our Moodle Development Environment course will be the first in a series that will eventually become the Moodle Developer Basics program. It will replace the Moodle Plugin Development Basics Basics course on Learn Moodle. This exciting new pathway is available in Moodle Academy. Developers can choose to take one course at the time, knowing they are working towards a full learning program for which they can earn a certificate. Gramp says that allowing participants to access smaller bits of learning that lead to a micro-credential is intrinsically motivational and a great way to improve professional skills.

The full Moodle Developer Essentials program will be available in April 2022. It will include five additional courses on web output, Moodles modular architectures and APIs, Moodle access and security basics, testing configurations and upgrades, and accessible development practices.

These new courses are self-paced, so participants can take them at their own pace.
