Nancy Pelosi spent over $500K flying private while calling climate change 'existential threat'

Speaker for the House Nancy PelosiShe has spent almost $500,000 on private jet travel since 2020, despite her advocacy that the US has a moral responsibility to address climate change. According to Federal Election Commission filings Clay Lacy Aviation, a California-based private aviation provider Clay Lacy Aviation received $423,707 from her campaign and another $65,457 from Virginia’s Advanced Aviation Team.

Pelosi stated that “it’s a religious thing” just three months after she had spent $67,604.93 on private airline travel. “I believe that this is God’s creation and we have a moral responsibility to be good stewards.”

Surprisingly many netizens supported Pelosi over the issue of her spending $500,000 on private aircrafts. A third said, “Did it ever occur? In this age of death threats by right wing terrorists, she needs to travel in an manner that insures personal safety.” She is an integral part of our government.” A fourth added, “She is also Speaker in the House and 2nd in Line to the Presidency.” However, not all netizens supported her. One wrote, “I hope it is her personal money ???!?! Even worse, where is her supposed obligation to climate control !??!!”. 

Pelosi’s words that “we have a moral responsibility” to reduce emissions were misinterpreted by one user. Another wrote, “No, it doesn’t apply to me or the rest of you.” Another person added, “It’s not the wealthy and powerful who have to make changes to save the earth. The Democratic National Committee has made a commitment to combating climate change in recent years and has spent hundreds of thousands on the Advanced Aviation Team. Private jets emit significantly more carbon per passenger than commercial aircraft, leading environmentalists and others to condemn its continued use.
