2022 FEB 10, NewsRx — By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Daily NewsResearchers reveal new data in public healthcare. According to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “The European Commission supports the initiation of health information related projects and networks serving comparative population health monitoring and health system performance assessment. Many of these projects and networks have produced relevant data, standards, methods, indicators and knowledge that may be lost as these networks become inactive.”
This research was supported by third-party funding sources, including Funder DOI: 10.13039/100013272 Award.
Our news correspondents received a quote based on the research. National Institute for Public Health and the Environment: “The aim of this project retrieval and review was to identify health information projects and networks and their produced output; and subsequently facilitate systematic access to this information for policy makers, researchers and interested others via a web-based repository. This article covers topics that are health-related to the population and topics that are related to the health system/health services. Excluded are specific infectious diseases, individual rare diseases, and the occurrence and consequences of specific medical treatments and interventions. Cohort studies and studies focusing on research methods are also excluded. After more thorough inspection, we searched bibliographic databases as well as EU project databases for policy-supporting projects and networks. We then selected those that met our inclusion criteria. We searched for the outputs. We also reviewed country participation in these networks and projects. We identified 36 projects or networks. 16 are population health-oriented, 6 are services and health systems-oriented, and 14 cover both. The total output volume is not easy to retrieve as many project websites were shut down. Some networks and/or the outputs of these networks have found continued support within European agencies and/or National Institutions. Others are in difficulty or have lost track of their policy relevance. The participation in the projects was not evenly distributed. Europe. Project information was made available through the Health Information Portal.”
According to the news reporters, the research concluded: “EU funded projects and networks have contributed greatly to the evidence-base for policy by providing comparative health information. But, it is necessary to further evaluate and preserve their outputs and allow for continued contributions to the field once funding has ceased. These projects and networks require a sustainable infrastructure. The Health Information Portal can play a vital role in conserving and reusing information about health. Information inequalities can exist across the globe. Europe but need further investigating.”
