NBA Kings’ “toxic” work environment hinders team beyond the court

Vivek Ranadive, NBA Kings Chair, has “become” the face of the longest playoff drought in the league’s history. He also claims that there is a “toxic” work environment within his organization in which “people don’t trust each other and “they are thirsty for any advantage or promotion they can,” according Jason Anderson, SACRAMENTO BEE. The source stated, “It is basketball hell.” … It’s a toxic work environment where some highly-talented people either leave or are fired for different reasons. A source claimed that there was a “revolving doors” of players, coaches, and executives which created a culture of chaos in which direction was lacking, change was constant and decision-making power shifted depending upon who Ranadive shared. Sources say that there is a “sense of change” in the Kings’ dynamic since they hired Monte McNair as GM to replace Vlade Dic. One minority owner of the team said that McNair is the one who calls the shots and does not need to be influenced. Ranadive was instrumental in saving the Kings from relocation when he bought the team from the Maloofs in 2013. He has “invested heavily into the team, Golden 1 Center as well as the Downtown Commons area and entertainment district.” Ranadive’s nine-year tenure as the Kings’ head coach is the longest in NBA history. Under his direction, the Kings have compiled an NBA record of 279-437(.390) while “churning,” through six head coach and four GMsSACRAMENTO BEE 4/11).
