OTTAWA NDP MP Richard Cannings, South OkanaganWest Kootenay, introduced an Environmental Bill of Rights last week to ensure that all communities have access and enjoy clean water, land, air, and land. This bill would increase protections for the natural environment by enshrining in law the right to a healthy one.
A healthy environment is a key part of Canadian pride. Cannings said that it is important to ensure that the legal system recognizes the right to a healthy environment. It is vital for the health and well-being in our communities.
This bill will bring Canada in line to more than 100 countries that have similar legislation. The bill also amends the Canadian Bill of Rights to include the right to a healthy, ecologically balanced environment. It would also allow the public to participate in environmental decision-making and provide access to information about the environment.
