A recent survey was conducted for B.C. Hydro,  found 77 per cent of British Columbians surveyed think the weather is becoming more extreme due to climate change, and 54 per cent are very concerned about the impact of climate change in the future.

According to the poll, 81% of respondents believe that climate change is having an effect on their daily costs.

Friday’s report from B.C. Hydro highlights these findings to show how they don’t align with the soaring use of natural gas —which has a demonstrably higher carbon footprint than electric — in the province.

According to the report, there has been an increase of 47% in natural gas cooking appliances, both in detached homes and townhomes, and a rise in the use natural gas fireplaces.

Nearly half (46%) of B.C. Residents prefer to cook with gas over electric. According to the poll, 69% of those surveyed said that gas is more responsive, while 68% say that electric cooks evenly.

According to B.C., the findings suggest that people believe gas appliances are more efficient or more luxurious than electric ones. However, electric is more sustainable. Hydro, which provides electricity for most parts of the province.

A majority (56%) of respondents preferred a gas fireplace to an electrical one. 73% stated that they preferred the real flame.

The report shows that 25% of B.C. Hydro customers have at most one natural gas cooking appliance such as a stove and at least one gas fire place.

It adds that gas appliances contribute about half a tonne per year to a household’s greenhouse gas emissions – the equivalent of driving a fossil fuel powered car for more than 2,000 kilometres.

B.C. Hydro urges British Columbians not to use gas stoves in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint.

800 B.C. Majid Khhoury conducted an online survey of 800 adults between Jan. 26 & Jan. 28. It is possible that there will be an error of plus/minus 3.5%.
