A pair of Panerais models were launched at Watches and Wonders Geneva last week. They are the watch of adventure and are leading the charge towards environmentally sustainable watchmaking.
First, the adventure. This rare complication is a perpetual Calendar in the Luminor Collection, the Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo PAM1269. It comes with a trip in Florence, where Panerai was established. Each of the 33 customers who purchase one of the limited editions of the limited editions will receive a trip to Florence and the surrounding Tuscan countryside for cultural and gastronomical activities and historical tours. An artist will create a special NFT for each buyer. The purchase of watches has in the past been accompanied by an adventure with Panerai. This included a training experience with Royal Italian Navy.Jimmy Chin – Rock climbing in the Grand TetonsAnd an expedition to Arctic. This one seems to be a bit less hardcore.
The watch is made from Goldtech, Panerais’ proprietary gold alloy. It also contains platinum to strengthen it and a little bit of copper to give it a rosy glow. Panerai P.4100, a perpetual calendar, has day, date and month as well as leap year (month and leap years are visible on the caseback). There is also a GMT with a second time zone and GMT on the main dial. Bonus: Instead of using a series corrections, the perpetual calendar functions can be adjusted via the crown.
Panerai launched a Submersible QuarantaQuattro Eco-Steel made of recycled steel. The company introduced the ecofriendly metal to its Luminor Marina line last year, and it is now available in the Submersible line. e-Steel is made from recycled materials and has the same chemical behavior, strength, and resistance to corrosion as steel. QuarantaQuattro, the new line, is named after its 44mm size. It features a gray, green, or blue dial and, for the first time, a ceramic bezel. It is water-resistant up to 300 meters. You will feel warm and fuzzy buying the watch because it is made from recycled PET or recycled rubber.
