The Royal Incorporation of Architects in ScotlandSix Honorary Fellows have been named. Each Fellow was awarded by the 105-year old organization for their significant contributions to cultural, academic, political, and commercial life.
Chief on the list was 2023 Venice Biennale Curator Lesley Lokko, a Scottish-Ghanaian academic, novelist, and architect, who is well-known for her influential writings. Writing and advocacy undertaken during her five-year tenure as Director of graduate studies at the University of JohannesburgLater, he became the Dean of Theology City College of New Yorks Spitzer School of Architecture
Lokko was joined to Lokko by Annie Flint, an influential author and advocate for tenement community in Scotland. Flint has produced many useful and popular advice guide for tenants and homeowners.
She was followed by Professor Jason Leitch CBE, who was a leader in Scotland’s response to Covid-19. He also served as an advisor on various government-led schemes that would deliver more personalized NHS care for the country’s 5.4 million inhabitants.
Leitch’s inclusion was made possible by Daisy Narayanan MBE, who is the current head of placemaking at the City of Edinburgh Council. Narayanan was the former director of urbanism at Sustrans. She has used her professional experience as an architect abroad to share community-centered lessons on health and the wellbeing in the built environment with the public design culture in her own country.
She was finally joined by Architecture & Design Scotlandchair Ann Allen, MBE. An inspirational leader, known for advocating the inclusion of the Place Principle into public design; Christine Murray, the founder. The DeveloperA former editor of both Architectural Review The Architects Journal Who helped to establish the influential W awardsShe continues to try to define what makes a city worthwhile to live in.
Christina Gaiger, President of the RIAS, said that six of these inspirational figures have accepted Honorary Fellowships. They have empowered and inspired people across Scotland and beyond with their knowledge and skills, making places and organizations more equitable and better.
