Obaseki explains how to reduce erosion menace and improve the environment.

Godwin Obaseki (Governor of Edo State), has stated that his administration will intensify efforts to address the danger of gully erosion in order to alleviate the sufferings and ill health of residents living in erosion-prone areas of the state.

After inspecting the gully erosion sites at Ogiso Quarters, and Urora in Ikpoba–Okha Local Government Area, the governor stated to journalists that his administration began addressing flood challenges in these areas since the area was devastated by a previous rainstorm.

He said, “It is about rebuilding our communities, and improving the lives for our citizens.” Imagine the drainage system covering more than 50 hectares of land. It has also enhanced their value.

This is what I believe development is all about. This is how communities are supported. All of this would not have been possible without the support of the World Bank through the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project.

This visit is designed to confirm that underground drainage has been completed correctly. Next, the next logical step will be to ensure that the road network is maintained and that communities reap the benefits of this project.

He said, “This project is not fancy.” We must invest in the environment to protect property and livelihoods.
