Officially released LXQt1.1 Desktop Environment. This is What’s New

LXQt 1.1 Desktop Environment Officially Released, This Is What's New

LXQt 1.1.1, the first major update to the lightweight Qt-based desktop system for GNU/Linux distributions has been released more than five years after LXQt1.0’s initial release.

LXQt 1.1 is packed with lots of cool changes, starting with better integration of applications that aren’t written in Qt, such as GTK apps through the implementation of the xdg-desktop-portal-lxqt component. This will allow apps like Firefox and Chromium to finally use the native LXQt dialogue.

In addition, LXQts’ PCManFM-Qt now supports the file manger DBus interface. Non-Qt apps, such as Firefox and Chromium, can use this interface to display files in folders or do other tasks.

Concerning PCManFM-Qt: The file manager now includes a Recent files item in File menu and an Open In Terminal item in right-click context menu within folders. This provides better support to RTL (Right–to–Left) languages, better positioning sticky desktop items, improved movement of bookmarks via the Bookmarks context menu, and better support when launching apps in certain terminal emulators.

LXQt 1.1.1 also introduces a simple option in the Session Setting panels to adjust global screen scaling. Clearlooks becomes the default LXQt themes and Breeze is the default icon themes (as can be seen in the screenshot above), and a separate page for setting GTK styles within the Appearance panel. A matching Qt palette is added to give a more uniform look and feel when using Qt widgets like Fusion.

LXQt 1.1 also includes an improved LXQt Panel component. This component supports legacy tray icons in the Status Notifier, resetting System Statistics graphs when the auto-hiding option is enabled for panels, and splitting the panel configuration dialog into three sections.

QTerminal’s terminal emulator got a new shortcut entry to the dropdown shortcut, fixes to the dropdown mode, and improved bookmark functionality. The LXQt Power Management now includes three tray icons with the battery percent inside. There is also support for circular or battery-shaped tray icon.

LXQt1.1, which fixes screen area misalignment and restores maximized screen size when exiting fullscreen mode, improves LXImage Qt archive manager to allow users change the view icons size and sort items by any columns, and integrates Screengrab with external image viewers/viewers.

LXQt 1.1.0 was built against Qt 5.15. Check out the following for more details on the major updates. Release announcement page. Meanwhile, if you’re using the LXQt desktop environment with your GNU/Linux distribution, keep an eye on the stable software repositories for the new release and update as soon as it’s available to enjoy all of these improvements and new features.
