Pembrokeshire groups are urged to apply to the environment fund

Pembrokeshire community groups can apply now for financial assistance from Port of Milford Havens Green Energy Fund.

The fund is designed for organisations to improve their environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emission, waste, or improving energy efficiency.

Pembrokeshires charities and voluntary organisations, community groups as well as social enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, and community groups are eligible to apply.

The maximum amount that groups or organizations are allowed to apply for is $5,000. The deadline for applications will be later in the year.

Lauren Williams, community engagement assistant, Port of Milford Haven said: We are always on the lookout for ways to reduce carbon footprint and contribute towards Net Zero targets set out by the UK Government and the Welsh Governments.

We are aware that many other organizations are also environmentally conscious so we want them to make savings and improve through this new initiative.

This will not only be a benefit for them in the immediate term but will also ensure the sustainability and viability of places like community centers long into the future.

She stated that sustainability is one of Port of Milford Haven’s core values. We are playing a leading part, in close collaboration, to help the region reach its decarbonisation goals.

Tam Bardell is the Ports energy director and has welcomed the creation of the Green Energy Fund. She said: We are making great steps in harnessing solar energy. For example, we have a Liddeston Ridge 20,000 panel solar park, the Milford Haven Energy Kingdom project is showing how hydrogen can decarbonise heat power and transport. The 60 million Pembroke Dock Marine Project at Pembroke Port will make the area a centre to excellence for the marine renewables market.

With all this in mind, it seemed obvious to start a fund that will assist others in our community in becoming more sustainable.

A panel of Port of Milford Haven employees will evaluate applications on a quarterly basis. The deadline to apply for the first round is Friday, June 24, 2022.
