Port Arthur LNG and Port Arthur Newsmedia have teamed up to launch the 2022 Environmental Champions Initiative.
The initiative will award $50,000 in grants for local non-profit organizations that are involved in programs or efforts to improve the environment in Port Arthur and Sabine Pass. Grants will range from $1,000 to $5,000.
Kelly Prasser is the Senior Manager of External Affairs for Sempra LNG and said that environmental stewardship was one of the top priorities of the company.
She stated that one of our strengths is collaborations and partnerships. We wanted to reach a wider audience to find local organizations that might have cool projects that could really impact our communities and neighbourhoods.
Prasser stated that beautification and restoration projects are two examples of ideal undertakings. The grants can also be used for educational programs or field trips for students in grades K-8.
Prasser stated that we partnered last year in Sabine Pass with Dick Dowlings Lions Club. They had to get rid of some rusty equipment. They wanted to purchase new equipment. This was the restoration of a park. We have also formed partnerships with Texas Master Naturalists and Texas Parks and Wildlife, Sea Rim State Park in order to explore opportunities to make it a better place for people to enjoy the natural habitat and learn more about it.
The deadline to apply is March 1-15.
Anya McInnis is the Port Arthur LNGs Public Relations Representative. She said that she hopes this initiative encourages others to consider starting programs or projects that help the environment.
She said that she hopes it will inspire other organizations to think outside the box. The better the environment is, the more people who are involved in it.
Candace Hemelt is the Port Arthur Newsmedia Account Executive. She stated that Port ArthurLNG is happy to be a partner again. The two companies teamed up to fund a similar initiative in 2021, which aimed to support local non-profit organizations that aid the community.
Hemelt stated that I am thrilled to be working with Port Arthur LNG for their Environmental Champions giveaway. This program provides nonprofits with a way to fund the projects they do for the community. Many groups have not been able raise money due to the pandemic. This is a great opportunity for them to get the funding that they need. I am hopeful and excited about the next Season of Giving because of the success of our Season of Giving. I am eager to see the projects these organizations are pursuing to help our community in a sustainable way.
The News will convene a panel of judges to evaluate all applications and select grant winners by the week beginning March 21st. The award reception will be held by the companies in the week of April 4.
