POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) After a two year hiatus, thePortneuf ValleyEnvironmentalFair was back in action.
More than 75 local businesses, agencies, and organizations providedhands-on activities,eco-friendly giveaways, and even showed off some of our beautiful animal friends.
Rachel Daniels, event organizer, said that the idea was to bring together various organizations working to improve their local environments and help to preserve our planet.
Despite the fact that the event had to be moved indoors, the EnvironmentalFair was jam-packed.
Daniels stated that “We usually have a few hundred people that come out, but it looked like the community really came out, which is amazing.”
Matthew Bowman, a local farmer was speaking to the crowd about compost and how it can be used on our lawns.
Bowman stated, “It basically shows how to pull out dead material from the gardens, compost it, make soil, and grow new plants to add back to the garden.” It shows the cycle of life.
Bowman believes that his experience as an organic farmer has taught him the importance of protecting the planet.
Bowman stated that you need to pay attention to the environment in your garden. Bowman stated, “When I am able to plant, when can I harvest, etc. You can have a better relationship to the whole world if you have that relationship with your garden.
The Environmental Fair provided exposure for all local nonprofits.
Madison Renn, Idaho Master Naturalists member, said that “our group really relies upon group participation.” “So, to keep the program running, we need a solid group of people who care about the environment.”
Renn believes that caring for the environment is essential.
Renn stated that taking care of the environment is something we must do for our future prospects, as well as mine, for the next generation. “It was super important to me to learn about this type stuff with a wide range of people.”
