Change is constant, especially when it comes to the environment. New Jersey’s environmental remediation program has been successful partly because it has continued changing and evolving as science has increased our knowledge and understanding.
What does success actually mean?sful? Consider this: More cleanups have been completed than the 2012 New Jersey Site Remediation Reform Act. There were approximately 14,000 environmental cases in 2012 If current trends continue LicenLSRPs (sed Site Remediation Professionals) may file the 20,000th final document in 2022. This document indicates how a project was completed.
Our work has not stopped. Nearly a decade later, there are still approximately 14,000 environmental cases in progress. Why? Every year, more remediation sites are discovered. The most current science identifies emerging contaminants that need to be remediated and provides new cleanup goals.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), has established new standards in the last year.Nup goals are based on a better understanding of chemical behaviors and the ways that people can be exposed to them, such as by inhaling vapors, drinking water, and touching contaminated materials.
The way we protect the environment and public health continues to improve. With our knowledge of how the remains of our industrial past continue their impact on our world today. New Jersey’s commitment to remediation will not be slowed down. Our LSRPs are constantly working to adapt to changing science and regulations.
AdAptation is about managing the ongoing impacts on our environment from climate change. Scientists have revealed that rising temperatures could lead to more severe storms and higher sea levels. This will have an impact on environmental conditions and the way LSRPs keep our environment clean. Sites that are up for grabs include:
