Holiday cooking can produce a lot more cooking oil. Although it may seem tempting to throw it away, this can cause damage to your pipes and the environment.

These materials can harden over time and cause blockages in pipes and city sewer lines. This could lead to blockages in your home or neighborhood.

There is a safer way in Garland.

Here’s where and when to dispose of holiday cooking grease from Garland up to Jan. 10.

Where/when:Garland Recycling Drop Off Center at 1426 Commerce St. Mondays to Fridays 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Where/when:Hinton Landfill Citizens Convenience Center, 3175 Elm Grove Rd. Rowlett. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
