Environment Southland chief executive Rob Phillips has announced his retirement.

Rob Phillips, Environment Southland chief Executive, has announced his resignation.

Rob Phillips will be retiring as the chief executive of Environment Southland after serving two terms.

In a meeting that is closed to the public, councillors will begin the process for appointing a chief executive.

Phillips will resign in May but will continue his governance roles as cochair of the BioHeritage challenge and as the councils appointed representative for Predator Free Rakiura.

Chairman Nicol Holler said Phillips’ passion and commitment to Southland and the community were unwavering. He will be greatly missed.

Horrell stated that Phillips was instrumental in strengthening community relationships and building relationships with industry organizations, Te Ao Marama and government ministers and department. This has been an important factor in advancing work programmes.

Horrell stated that he has supported councillors and steered the staff through a wide range of work that is often both challenging and complex.

Phillips was the initiator of The Southland Regional Development Strategy(SORDS) brought his expertise to bear in potentially devastating velvetleaf pest plant incursionIn 2016, the staff was supported through the 2020 February FloodsThe significant reduction in operational expenses was made to accommodate the project. Loss of marine fees.

Horrell stated that Robs foresight and contribution have made the organization well-positioned to continue working in partnership with the community to improve Southlands’ environment.
