Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE : HPE), today announced that Steel Authority of India Limited, the largest steel producer of India, has chosen Hewlett Packard Enterprise. HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platformIts Central Marketing Organization (CMO), to accelerate digital transformation and reduce their environmental footprint by using an innovative on-premises cloud that has capacity available on demand.

SAIL is an Indian government-owned steel agency and its Central Marketing Organization (CMO) is one of India’s largest industrial marketing entities. SAIL’s CMO oversees the marketing of special, carbon, and alloy steel products from the steel plants of SAIL in India. SAIL’s ERP system, which runs on HPE technology, is the backbone of all business-critical applications. It supports every process from lead generation to shipment and allows SAIL steel to be delivered to every corner. SAIL’s existing infrastructure was at end of its life prior to the HPE GreenLake platform platform migration. They needed to prepare for a migration from S/4 HANA, improve application availability, and ensure business continuity.

SAIL understands that customer data is a valuable asset and recognized the importance to extract the full value from the data generated throughout the organization. They wanted a cloud experience that was flexible and could be used on demand. However, they also wanted to keep their data in their own data centers.

SAIL chose the HPE GreenLake platform for edge-to-cloud to accelerate their digital transformation. It also provides an on-premises cloud with unlimited capacity. SAIL was closely assisted by HPE Pointnext Services who managed the entire system integration project. HPE developed a new architecture that is based on open standards and included a storage refresh. The seamless Unix-to-Linux migration was achieved by the HPE team with minimal investment and application downtime. The new environment has significantly reduced the footprint of datacenters. This has resulted in lower power consumption, operational complexity, lower operating costs, and a smaller environmental footprint.

We are thrilled to continue the decades-old partnership with SAIL by offering them the HPE GreenLake cloud platform to provide the best on-premises cloud experience to solve their current and future business problems, said Som Sasangi, managing Director, Hewlett Packard Enterprise India. Customers are increasingly turning to HPE GreenLake, our extensive system integrator capabilities, to design and execute a modernized, end to end solution that can support digital transformation and scale easily to meet future requirements. We look forward to continuing to build on this and offering the same services to other private and public entities.

The HPE GreenLake platform delivers scalability, cloud experience via a pay-per use model and meets compliance and regulatory requirements. Data remains on-premises. SAIL also has access to HPE GreenLake Central, which gives them a dashboard to monitor IT spending and plan it. This allows them to better plan and forecast their budgets.

HPE was responsible for the entire implementation and design of the solution, including all HPE and third party products and all data center deliverables. SAILs edge-to cloud infrastructure for SAP has been fully implemented to meet the current ERP requirements and future S/4HAN workloads.
