Your input is needed on Housing & Environmental JusticeComplete Survey EnglishOr SpanishBy June 15
The County is currently preparing its first ever Environmental Justice Element (EJE), and updating its Housing Element. Both elements are part Santa Barbara County Comprehensive Plan. It will also plan housing for all residents of the county, including seniors, families, workers, and others. Accordingly, the Housing Element will be able to allow all types housing, including houses, apartments and farm labor housing.
EJ is the principle that all people, regardless of race, culture, or income, are treated equally in government laws and programs. EJ is a statement that all people have the right to a healthy environment and equitable access to decision making processes. It also protects against environmental and health risks. The EJE will identify the EJ communities’ needs and create new policies or update existing policies to prioritize them.
To better understand the needs of residents and identify EJ issues like pollution and other health hazards, the County is conducting a survey. The County will use survey results to determine where new housing should be built, what type of housing is needed, and what EJ issues are being faced by communities throughout the county.
