Second Richlands leader resigns; cites toxic atmosphere

RICHLANDS, W.Va. (WVVA), – On Friday, a second member announced his resignation from the Richalnds Town Council.

Richard Brown, a council member and potential candidate, stated that the environment was toxic. Brown stated that it made it impossible for the residents of the town to live better.

Brown’s resignation came just days after Mary Ann Strong, the vice mayor of the council, quit.

Below is the complete quote by Brown.

On April 6th 2022, Mayor Rod Cury accepted my resignation. It became effective immediately for my position on the Town Council for Richlands. I want to thank everyone who has voted for me and supported me throughout both terms.

Richlands’ political climate has changed to the point that not only are there potential candidates but also some sitting members of the town hall. This makes it difficult to achieve our goal of making Richlands a better place for all.

I had previously indicated in December that I would no longer seek re-election because I felt it was inappropriate for me approve a budget for next fiscal year that I would be not part of or responsible.

I will close by reminding you of the story about the Pied Piper from Hamelin. Be careful about who you follow. Not all people are as they seem. Actions speak louder that words.
