UNIVERSITY PARK in Pennsylvania. Shavers Creek Environmental Center Penn States outdoor educational field lab and nature centre has achieved LEED certification for sustainability achievements through its recent expansion.

According to the U.S. Green Building Council LEED, which stands as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or Leadership in Environmental Design), is the most popular green building rating system. It provides a framework that allows for green buildings to be healthy, efficient, and cost-saving.
Joshua Potter, Shavers Creek’s associate director of operations, communications, stated that the center’s goals were to protect the surrounding environment habitats, maximize site sustainability, open space, and promote best stormwater management and design practices, fuel-efficient vehicles and ride sharing for staff and visitors.
It is part of our mission, he stated, to raise awareness of people’s impact on the natural world in efforts promote biodiversity and combat climate changes. These are important issues of our time and connect people to the natural environment. It’s just one part of the way our choices influence the world around.
Shavers Creek, 12 miles from University Park campus between State College Huntingdon, is currently open to the public every day from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
