Doha: In cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Friends of the Environment Center of the Ministry of Sports and Youth organized the first environmental forum 2022 to discuss the state of Qatar’s environment. The event will also investigate and propose solutions, and make recommendations to the concerned authorities.
The forum is called The Grandparents Meadows.. Trust and provides an open discussion platform for academics, researchers, and experts to discuss the challenges facing Qatari society through a series of seminars and discussions over the next weeks.
The forum’s inaugural symposium was held under the title Environment in Qatar. Challenges and Ambitions. Engineer Farhoud al Hajri, Chief Executive Officer of the Friends of the Environment Center, urged that sustainability be given the attention it deserves. He said that real development can only happen if the environment is protected, changed consumption patterns and God is involved in the process.
He stressed the importance to develop a strategy that focuses on specific goals and priorities, drawing on the expertise of countries that have made great progress in dealing with the environment. However, he also warned that society has rights, such as enjoying a safe and healthy environment and duties including the preservation of the environment and its components.
Al Hajri said that this forum reviews a range of environmental topics and axes, as well as the challenges facing Qatar’s quest to achieve its desired environmental future. He pointed out that the next symposium of forum will be held April 13 under the title Wildlife Qatar: Reality & Hope.
The symposium was moderated and chaired by Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari. Participants discussed the effects of pollution on the environment and how it affects individuals and society.
They also discussed the negative effects of these phenomena on society and public health, and the development of solutions to reduce them.
The symposium’s speakers stressed the fact that Qatar is experiencing rapid progress and activity at all levels of the construction, commercial, and industrial sectors. They also stated that the environment is an organism that is constantly changing and can become sick or healthy, which can have an impact on its environment components. It’s like the human body, which is made up of tiny cells that can be affected by the smallest things. They stressed the importance of looking at the environment as a vibrant organism.
The speakers warned against overgrazing wild plants and wildlife and stressed the importance of raising awareness and educating the next generation.
They stated that development should be balanced to preserve the environment and that the institutions responsible for ensuring that the environment is protected must fulfill their responsibilities. This includes reviewing laws and regulations and creating awareness through training and advertising campaigns.
