Spring Cleaning is Green: 92 Percent Of Americans Are Planning to Spring Clean This year.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–With the official start to spring underway, spring cleaning is top-of-mind for many Americans. A Bona/Harris Poll survey of more than 2,000 Americans found that 93% of them (93%) plan to spring clean in the coming year. The overwhelming majority of these people (92%) said they are considering taking steps to reduce their environmental impact when spring cleaning. More than half (56%) also stated that they are thinking about using environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Bona commissioned this surveyGlobally-focused company supplying products for installing, renovating and maintaining premium floors found that 53 percent of Americans have made the switch to more environmentally-friendly cleaning products in the last year. More than three quarters (77%) also stated that they are likely to switch to more environmentally friendly products.

Spring is a great time to organize and tidy up, but also to bring in cleaners that are safer for your home all year. We were happy to see that Americans are switching to cleaner cleaning products that are more environmentally friendly. Also, some of the old misconceptions about the efficacy of these products seem less prevalent.

Other highlights from the survey 2022 Bona Spring Cleaning Poll include:

  • Spring Cleaning and the Environment92% of spring cleaning will be done this year. These include donating clothing or furniture to charity (62%), using eco-friendly cleaning products (56%), adding plants in their home to improve the air quality (45%), installing an air purifier in their home (31%), and composting (25%).
  • Household Items to be Replaced:Americans have made great strides in changing many household items to more eco-friendly options over last year. This includes cleaning products (53%), food (41%), and beauty products (33%).
  • Green Cleaning IngredientsMore than 4 out 5 Americans (83%) agree that cleaning products made from environmentally friendly ingredients are at least somewhat important. About a third (32%), however, say it is essential or extremely important. Nearly 4/5 (79%) spring cleaning respondents said they are interested in using environmentally friendly cleaning products. A third strongly agreed with this sentiment. 2022 spring cleaners between the ages of 18 and 44 are more likely to strongly disagree than those between 55+ (39% vs. 25%)
  • Parents go green:When asked what characteristics were essential/extremely crucial in cleaning products used in their home, parents with children under 18 are more likely than those without children to care about the environment (42%) Parents with children under 18 years are also more likely (66%) to have made a switch to cleaner products in recent months than those without children (47%)
  • COVID CleaningBonas 2021 spring cleaning survey found that just over 2 out of 5 Americans (42%) said they were cleaning less now than in the first few months after the pandemic. Nearly half (49%) of Americans say they are cleaning less than in the first few months of the pandemic. The number jumps to 60% for those aged 18-34.
  • Spring Cleaning:The likelihood of 35-44-year olds stating that they spend more time spring cleaning than those aged 18-34 and 55+ is higher (73% vs 64% and 51%, respectively).
  • Cleaning can bring you feelings that are not only pleasant but also uplifting.Similar to last year’s (86%), 90% Americans say they feel more relaxed when their home is clean.
