Stanek swears to lead the Kansas Department. Health and Environment

TOPEKA (WIBW), Monday – The new state health secretary was sworn in.

Janet Stanek took the oath of office as secretary for the Kansas Dept. Officially confirming Janet Stanek in the role of secretary for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment she assumed five months ago.

Gov. Laura Kelly appointed Stanek to the interim position, following the resignation of Dr. Lee Normans last November. Stanek has previously been the head of state employee health benefits and held 21 years of leadership positions at Stormont Vail.

During her confirmation hearing some conservative committee members questioned Staneks support of CDC guidance and statements that COVID-19 vaccines were safe. In March, the Senate voted 32-5 to confirm her.
