ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) The Environmental Protection Agency announced that a receiver will be appointed to take over St. Joseph’s facilities after years of noncompliance with environmental regulations.

The EPA announced Tuesday that a federal court appointed a receiver for 60-days to evaluate the facilities of HPI Products Inc. and St. Joe Properties LLC.

Six pesticide manufacturing facilities are owned by the defendants in the St. Joseph region. The EPA claims that thousands of containers of hazardous waste and non-hazardous material were stored at the facilities.

Although the defendants reached a 2011 settlement to clean up these sites, the EPA claims they have not followed the terms of that settlement.
