This grant is part $6,370,000 that was awarded to communities across the state through the Local Parks and Recreation Funds (LPRF) and the Land and Water Conservation Funds (LWCF). The Recreation Trails Program (RTP) also grants $448,000 to the state.
Deputy Commissioner Jim Bryson, TDEC, stated that local leaders need resources to provide recreational activities in their communities. We are pleased to announce the grants and look forward for the recreation projects that will result from this assistance.
One of the toilet facilities will be located near the Rotary Park Drive entrance. It measures approximately 990 sq.ft. The other will be located near the parking lot at the old E. Old Ashland City Road entrance and will cover approximately 860 square footage. Both will be constructed to meet all ADA requirements. They will also tie into existing ADA parking.
Senator Bill Powers, R. Clarksville, stated that Rotary Park is an integral part the Clarksville community. These new facilities will make the park more useful and provide a significant benefit for the community. I am grateful for the grant application submitted by local officials.
Curtis Johnson, R.Clarksville, stated that he is excited about the significant funding that will go towards improving Rotary Park, Montgomery County. These improvements will make it easier for all who visit the 111-acre recreation park. I want to congratulate all those involved in the grant process and look forward for the completion of this project.
The LPRF program provides funding for the acquisition of land for parks and other recreational purposes. LPRF funds may also be used for trail development or capital projects in parks, natural spaces, and greenways. The LWCF program gives grants to states for administering to local governments and state governments. It is used to develop and acquire public outdoor recreation facilities and areas. The grants are subject to a 50 percent match.
The RTP grant program is federally funded and administered by the state. It provides funds for trail maintenance, trail construction, rehabilitation, trail maintenance, and trail head support. These grants come in the form an 80-percent grant and a match of 20 percent.
