The Crown Prince of Norway and Crown Princess of Norway invited the environment panel of children aged 11-15 to Skaugum Estate to learn more about their commitments to protecting nature and the planet, and fighting climate change.

The Children’s Climate Panel consists of eight children from all over Norway, who pass on children’s and young people’s opinions to politicians and decision makers. They gathered together for the first time since the beginning of the new year. Their task is to ensure children are heard on matters relating to climate and the environment.

Crown Princess MetteMarit and Crown Prince Haakon greeted the young people at the Skaugum Estate. Everyone around the table briefly spoke about themselves and why they chose to be involved in climate and the environment.

The children presented the Children’s Climate Report to the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, which the panel publishes annually, the last in advance of participation in the UN climate conference in Glasgow, from 31 October to 13 November 2021. The report is entitled “The biggest issue of our time – children’s responsibility?” and clearly shows that children are concerned about climate change and nature.

In a conversation with Crown Prince and Crown Princess, they expressed their concerns about justice and shared their beliefs that people who live in rich countries like Norway are more responsible than others. The children expressed their willingness to make an effort in their daily lives.

One of the council members spoke out following the meeting to the media: Talking to politicians was quite different. The Crown Prince of Wales and Crown Princess were much more open to talking to us. Everything went perfectly. We clearly communicated our message.
