BATON ROUGE: A popular hangout spot that has a troubled past is looking to make a fresh start.
The Oasis Bar and Grill has had a turbulent reputation over the last 18 months. After numerous complaints from neighbors, it was forced to close down and rebrand.
“Those parties would tend to get out of hand. Music would just become extremely loud… vulgar… parking would start becoming an issue on Burbank,” said Ben O’Connor, President of the University Villas homeowner’s association.
O’Connor said that since The Oasis ran low, he’s not heard from any of his nuisance neighbors. O’Connor is hoping that everyone will respect the rules, now that the establishment is reopening.
“We just simply hope that they’ve learned from the mistakes of the Oasis and doesn’t disturb its neighbors,” O’Connor said.
Soon, the Oasis will be replaced by a new barbecue and blues restaurant. The Shed owners say they are ready to bring a family-friendly environment to the venue on Burbank Dr. and leave the past behind.
“Once we get open, we’re looking for family, community, we’re serving up some of the best barbecue that we can cook, and hopefully a lot of smiles,” owner of The Shed, Brian Orrison, said.
Orrison stated that while the Shed has no official opening date, he hopes for a time in early May as National Barbecue Month.
