Frederick Lee, Gusto’s chief of security, said that IT professionals are used to the idea and practice of migrating data. They don’t have the same capabilities when migrating to cloud, unlike being able clone hard drives in a physical data centre.
Data integrity is a key issue when migrating to cloud computing. It must be ensured that no one has access to the data and that it has the same security measures as the data center. Lee stated that cloud can be used to automate tasks like asset discovery and inventory. However, it can be difficult to track what other people are doing in a cloud environment.

Lee said that if you aren’t paying attention to what’s really going on in the environment it’s easy to let these things slip by the cracks. This is a very, very manageable problem that can be solved if the IT team and security team are aware of it and prepare for it.
