Thwaites: Antarctic glacier headed for dramatic change

At the moment, the eastern shelf has a width approximately 40km and moves forward at 600m per year. The next change in status will likely see an ice speed increase to approximately 2 km per year. This is the same velocity as the current velocity in the 80km-wide western section.
