PRAYAGRAJAnkit Kumar Verma, a young man from Prayagraj aged 22, has been appointed as the United Nations Environment Programme’s regional ambassador for India.
Ankit will be raising awareness about climate change, the importance of conservation and the need to protect environmental treasures in his new role. He will continue to work with the TEG in various environmental awareness programs until September 2022.
25 ambassadors were extended this time. 35 new ambassadors were also appointed from around the world, seven of them from India.
Ankit, a student at Institute of Engineering and Rural technology-Prayagraj is interested in environmental issues and has been inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modis’ speech at COP26 2021 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. He considered applying for the role of regional ambassador for Tunza.
UNEP’s governing council adopted a long-term strategy in February 2003 to engage young people with environmental activities and UNEP work. The Tunza Youth Strategy was the title of the strategy. Tunza is a Kiswahili sub-regional language that refers to Eastern Africa’s Eastern Africa. It means to treat with affection or care. Ankit, a Sangam City resident, explained that the Tunza Concept is based on this theme.
Ankit, who is also listed in the India Book of Records as the youngest writer in the field of psychology, stated that he wants to change the climate conditions by using technology. He is also a Google Developer Lead.
