The University of Reading seeks a new Research Director for the Environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape, with vision and academic leadership, one of the Universitys four multidisciplinary research themes (Environment); develop research excellence and partnerships, and enhance and support a vibrant research culture that is ambitious, open, and inclusive.
Our work is clustered in three strong areas: Climate Science and Climate Action; Environment and Sustainability; and Communicating environmental science. There are nine Research Divisions within the theme: Climate, Weather, Earth Observation & Spa, Built Environment, Ecology & Evolution. Our research is multi- and interdisciplinary and covers the physics and mathematics of Earth system. Two Interdisciplinary Research Centres offer a wider perspective, the Walker Institute (climate resilience), and the Centre for the Mathematics of Planet Earth.
You will have:
- Relevant and recent experience in academic, research and managerial leadership.
- Excellent understanding of the changing research landscapes at home and abroad.
- The ability to articulate vision and strategic direction.
- Demonstrable ability to influence and persuade others to make changes.
- A track record in research achievements and an active research program.
