USDA Program Encourages Ranchers and Farmers to Do Good for the Environment

According to Brandon Willis, a professor from Utah State University who was a contributor to the 2008 Farm Bill, the Conservation Stewardship program is one of USDA’s programs that offers incentives to farmers and ranchers to do well with their lands. He explains.

If you are willing to do good things for the environment, they will pay you.

CSP offers many programs to help farmers and ranchers utilize sustainable methods.

Anna Johnson is the policy manager at the Center for Rural Affairs. She has analyzed and published a report that analyzes the CSP’s previous spending.

Johnson stated that CSP can be a program that helps farmers and ranchers in Utah.

CSP targets primary resource such as wind and rain erosion, cover crops and irrigation. It also addresses energy use and livestock production.

CSP has already treated over 550k acres in Utah by 2020.

Yes, they have changed their ways of doing things. Willis said that they have changed the way they conserve, but at the same time, it is significantly more than before.

President Biden’s Build Back Better Bill proposes plans to increase conservation spending such as CSP.
