The Evergreen State There are 154 state parks in the areaAccording to the Washington State Parks Foundation, there are approximately 120,000 acres of forests, waterfalls and wildlife. There are also over 400 miles of hiking trails.

According to the foundations website these parks depend on seasonal and salaried employees, such as rangers and wildlife technicians, who play an important role in the operation, maintenance and improvement of Washington’s beloved state parks.

Five state jobs are currently available if you love nature and want to help preserve and protect Washington’s wildlife and parks.

Park Aide (South Sound Area) Multiple Parks

Salary: $16.09 to $18.48 an hour

Non-permanent, full time

Location: South Sound Washington State Parks

Department: Parks and Recreation Commission

Job Description: The Park Assistant will manage the park’s grounds, housekeeping and janitorial duties. Provide information about the park to visitors, register campers, answer the phones, and collect fees.

Wildlife Area Technician

Salary: $2738-$3,535 per month

Seasonal, full-time

Ferry County

Department: Dept. of Fish and Wildlife

Job description: The Wildlife Area Technie will maintain and repair main facilities, compost facilities, irrigation system, fences and trail heads, sign and gate operators, and operate arc welders and cutting torches, tractors and mowers, basic power, hand tools, and park vehicles.

Requirements for this position: At least three years’ experience as a natural resource worker or college-level experience working in agriculture, wildlife, or related fields. You will need a valid drivers license and a pesticide applicator license. CPR/First Aid certification is required. Chainsaw operator certification is required.

Parks Planner

Salary: $5772 to $7,574 per month

Permanent, full time

Location: Thurston Country

Department: Parks and Recreation Commission

Description of the job: The Parks Planner plans and manages projects between public-private partners. They also manage public hearings, tribal consultations, coordinations, contracts, and grant applications.

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree with a majority in landscape architecture, business administration, park resource planning or other related areas, four years experience in collaborative projects work and an unrestricted driver’s license.

Park Ranger

Salary: $4.627 – $6.063 per month

Permanent, full time

Location: Skamania County

Department: Parks and Recreation Commission

Job description: This job listing for a park ranger is for Beacon Rock State Park. Park Rangers will perform administrative duties, enforce park rules and maintain park facilities through maintenance and cleaning. They also supervise volunteers and help park visitors.

Requirements for this position: A minimum of two years experience as a fully commissioned Washington State Park Ranger.

Coordinator for Scenic Bikeways

Salary: $5772 – $7574 per month

Permanent, full time

Location: Thurston Country

Department: Parks and Recreation Commission

Job description: The Scenic Bikeway Coordinator will work out of Tumwater. He/She will coordinate efforts for developing a scenic bikeway program in the state. This will be done within the guidelines, regulations and regulations of the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials, as well as any applicable regulations. Tribal participation will be included throughout the process.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in park administration, landscape planning, environmental engineering or another related field, three years experience in park planning or landscape architecture and a valid driver’s license.
