West Basins student contest open for submissions

The West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin), has launched its 2022 Water Is Life student contest. This contest invites students from the service area to submit creative designs that encourage water efficiency.

The contest is a collaboration between West Basin Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan). The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) will be hosting the regional competition. The winning artwork will be published in the agency’s 2023 student artwork calendar.

In April 2022, a panel will select fifteen student winners (one grand-prize winner and four honorable mentions for each grade in elementary, middle and high schools). Each winner will be awarded an Apple iPad. Grand prize winners will also receive a digital stylus pen, and a $25 Apple Store gift voucher.

Harold C. Williams, president of West Basin Board, stated that the Water Is Life student art competition is an opportunity for students and teachers to express their creativity and make a positive difference in the community. Through this competition, our youth can demonstrate the value of water saving and efficiency, especially in these times of drought. This is a valuable service to the public.

Qualified teachers can request a $50 classroom art supply set and an in-person or online art lesson to help their students submit work. There are limited art supplies sets and lessons available. Online instructions for booking art lessons, as well as updated contest guidelines (in English and Spanish) are available.

West Basin will accept artwork submissions up to the March 18th deadline at 5 p.m.
