Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has been appointed JNU Vice-Chancellor. She is the first woman to hold the position.
On Monday, the Ministry of Education (MoE), appointed her to the top position. She is currently a professor of Political Science at the Department of Politics and Public Administration of the Savitribai Phule University, Maharashtra. The 59 year-old is also a JNU alumna where she obtained her MPhil and PhD.
“As vice-chancellor at JNU, I thank the Hon’ble Premier Minister and Minister for Higher Education for giving this opportunity to me as the first female and alumnus from this esteemed University in the state of Tamil Nadu,” she said in a statement. Pandit stated that she looks forward to working with students as well as faculty members. This administration’s immediate focus would be to provide a clean environment, gender-sensitive and student-friendly administration for academic excellences. We would work to implement NEP-2025, the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister, especially in multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas of study, JNU rising up in academics and research. Her statement stated that the emphasis would be on creating Indo-centric narratives. M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed last week as the chairman UGC. He was the JNU’s acting VC after his five-year term expired last year.
