Advocates claim that the White House tool that helps agencies and departments identify communities suffering from pollution and other inequities has promise, but also has gaps in understanding the communities.
Since the release of the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool by the White House Council on Environmental Quality last week, advocates for environmental justice and public safety have been using it in beta. The tool uses eight metrics to assess census tracts, including access to renewable energy and legacy pollution.
The goal of this project is to draw on similar tools used by EPA over many years and a handful states.
