[Withdrawn] Through the conservation and restoration marine environments, we aim to achieve a high environmental status.

1. Introduction

This funding will be used to support projects that help achieve a good environmental status by improving and protecting the marine environment.

These are the measures that can be used to apply for funding:

  • M11 Aquaculture offers environmental services
  • M12 Preventing and collecting Marine Litter
  • M13 Support for design and implementation conservation measures
  • M15 Marine biodiversity conservation and restoration

Please note that this information is only for guidance and is not binding. If you are not sure if an item is eligible, please refer to the General Guidance.

2. Projects that you can apply

2.1 M11 Aquaculture offers environmental services

Projects can include:

  • Participation in biodiversity restoration and conservation programmes that support the conservation and reproduction aquatic animals. These programs must be developed or overseen by public authorities.
  • Aquaculture projects that focus on conservation and improvement of the environment, biodiversity, and management landscape and traditional features in aquaculture zones.

2.2 Result indicators

FaSS result indicators are designed to measure the benefits that a project delivers. The project type you are applying for will have its own set of result indicators. The following indicators apply to projects under M11, Aquaculture Providing Environmental Services.

2.3 M11 Aquaculture offers environmental services

Indicator Information you need to provide
Change in the annual production value () Current annual production value ()Before the project.

Expected annual production value ()After the project.

The company accounts for the past 3 years.

The project’s success will be determined by the actual and anticipated change in the annual value of production.
Change in the annual production volume (tonnes). Present annual production volume (tonnes) prior to the project.

After the project, annual production (tonnes) is expected.

The company accounts for the past 3 years.

To determine the project’s success, we will use the actual and anticipated change in annual production volume.

Your project may not have all the FaSS result indicators that you need. You will be asked which indicator is most appropriate to show the benefits of your project.

As part of the post-project monitoring, you will need to provide evidence to prove the actual benefits your project has brought to you.

2.4 M12 Prevention and Collection of Marine Litter

Projects can include:

  • During fishing, collecting and preventing marine litter.
  • Equipment for the prevention, collection, and storage of litter.
  • Waste collection schemes.
  • Investments that reduce environmental impact of fisheries related waste (fishing equipment designed to be recycled or less hazardous if lost).
  • It is important to educate and spread awareness about marine litter and the best practices for preventing it.

2.5 Funding will not be provided:

  • Except where it is part of the testing of gear design, recovery of fishing gear lost at sea cannot be done.
  • Marine litter must be removed from the marine environment where it is possible to cause harm to the environment.

2.6 Result indicators

FaSS result indicators are designed to measure the benefits that a project delivers. The type of project you are applying to will determine which result indicators you use. The following indicators apply to projects under M12: Preventing and capturing marine litter

2.7 M12 Prevention and Collection of Marine Litter

Indicator Information you need to provide
Volume (m3) of marine litter storage on boats/at ports The volume of marine litter storage available before you start your project

After your project, expect to store a lot of marine litter

The project’s success will be determined by the storage change expected and actually experienced.

Your project may not have all the FaSS result indicators that you need. You will be asked which indicator is most appropriate to show the benefits of your project.

As part of the post-project monitoring, you will need to provide evidence to prove the actual benefits your project has brought to your community.

2.8 M13 Support for design and implementation conservation measures

Projects can include:

  • To develop local solutions for improving the environment, it is possible to set up local groups or cooperatives.
  • The introduction of new technical and organisational knowledge that reduces fishing’s impact on the environment.
  • Design, development, and monitoring of administrative and technical means that are necessary for the development and implementation conservation measures.
  • Development of online resources and guidance to communicate new and protected areas to local fishermen, and outline mitigations to protect business models.
  • Businesses can be supported to diversify to less environmentally harmful practices (e.g. seaweed farming).
  • Improving management of the marine environment through the design and implementation conservation measures.
  • Improved environmental monitoring
  • The preparation, including studies and monitoring, and updating of management and protection plans for fishery-related activities.
  • Management, restoration, and monitoring of Marine Protected Areas. Protected, endangered, and threatened species that are impacted or impacted by fishing activities.
  • Research and trials in management of Marine Protected Areas

2.9 Result indicators

FaSS result indicators are designed to measure the benefits that a project delivers. These indicators are specific to the type and purpose of the project you are applying. These indicators are applicable to M13 projects, which support the design, implementation, and monitoring of conservation measures.

2.10 M13 Support for design and implementation conservation measures

Indicator Information you need to provide
Protected, recovered, or improved marine habitat or coastal habitat as a result project actions (m2) The expected area in m where the research/data collection will be conducted

Your project may not have all the FaSS result indicators that you need. You will be asked which indicator is most appropriate to show the benefits of your project.

As part of the post-project monitoring, you will need to provide evidence to prove the actual benefits your project has brought to you.

2.11 M15 Marine biodiversity conservation and restoration

Projects can include:

  • Increasing environmental awareness through industry involvement in the protection, management enhancement and restoration marine biodiversity.
  • Actions that aim to preserve and/or recover biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate change adaptation resilience and mitigation. This includes the restoration of coastal and marine habitats as well as their scientific evaluation.

3. Result indicators

FaSS result indicators are designed to measure the benefits that a project delivers. The type of project you are applying to will determine which result indicators you use. These results indicators apply to projects under M15 that protect and restore marine biodiversity.

3.1 M15 Protection and restoration marine biodiversity

Indicator Information you need to provide
Protected, recovered, or improved marine habitat or coastal habitat as a result project actions (m2) The expected area in m where the research/data collection will be conducted
The number of people who engage in activities that increase environmental awareness The number and type of participants who will be involved in the project

Your project may not have all the FaSS result indicators that you need. You will be asked which indicator is most appropriate to show the benefits of your project.

As part of the post-project monitoring, you will need to provide evidence to prove the actual benefits your project has brought to your community.

4. Funding available

Below are the minimum and maximum funding options for M12, Preventing, and collecting marine litter.
