The Youth Creative Hub in Egypt (YCH) aims to bridge that gap between education and the labor market. It organised an artistic-cultural day to raise awareness about climate change and environmental issues among youth, encouraging them to adopt sustainable practices.
Participants presented innovative ideas to turn used paper into accessories, chairs, and other items during the event.
Kariem Mahros, the coordinator of Siwa Speaks Green, stated that all of us are victims and assailants of the crimes against the natural environment.
He explained that climate changes do not affect only the Arctic, but also the entire planet’s ecosystem.
He also stated that violence against the natural environment can always be justified. The economic development is the only reason for the destruction.
He stated that any environmental initiative must be rooted in the culture of the community.
He stated that the catacombs at Kom Ash Shoqafah were once a waste collection area, but that this changed with awareness campaigns.
The catacombs are made up of several Alexandrian tombs, sculptures, and archaeological objects from the Pharaonic funerary Cult with Hellenistic, early Imperial Roman influences.
Mazen, founder of Egyptian company Loop, stated that plastic cannot be given up easily because it is used in many industries. However, the solution is to remanufacture it.
He explained that through his company, he converts plastic bottles into clothes, explaining that his aim is to provide environmentally-friendly products.
The event was co-organized with the Pharmaceutical Association for Investment. The association is a non-profit student organisation that focuses on business. It was established in 2008 at Cairo University’s Faculty of Pharmacy. It organizes four events each year, including the PhAI Employment Fair or Youth Creative Hub.
The PhAI employs youth-to youth education methods to invest in youths’ skills and help them reach their early career goals.
Through PhAI Schools and Chapters events, more than 2500 students were prepared for the market. The event also connected more than 20,000 students to over 100 companies through employment fairs.
