Cambodia continues to launch more campaigns against the climate crisis and is moving towards its 2050 carbon neutrality goal. Clean Air Plan is the newest project being implemented to reach Cambodia’s climate friendly goals.
The Ministry of Environment, with the technical and financial support of the United Nations Environment Program’s Asia-Pacific Clean Air Partnership and the Stockholm Environmental Institute of Sweden, aims to reduce carbon emissions in the country by the implementation of this project.
The project will also serve to protect public safety by eliminating adverse health effects from air pollution.
Neth Pheaktra (Secretary of State) was the spokesman of the Ministry of Environment at the January 25 press conference for Cambodia’s Clean Air Plan. The Secretary said that air pollution is an environmental problem in the region as well as the world. Secretary of State Pheaktra stated that air pollution can spread across borders and cause pollution.
International health challenges include air pollution. All countries need to be aware of the situation and take action to address it. The Secretary of state pointed out that recent developments in infrastructure, and other constructions, have resulted a rise in greenhouse gas emission.
The Cambodia Clean Air Plan (NSD) is a national strategic document that identifies activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Cambodia. It provides key information such as the current and future air quality, major sources of pollution, regulations and measures to reduce emission by sector. The plan measures pollution that causes health effects at the national level to improve air quality and protect public safety.
The plan’s main purposes are:
To identify the most significant sources of air pollution, now and in the future, we will be collaborating with greenhouse gases and pollutants to create a joint analysis.
Identify ways to reduce pollution and emissions in existing strategies and plans, in accordance with reducing greenhouse gas emission.
Identify other preventive measures that can be taken to reduce emissions.
Identify the benefits of the mitigation measures that are aimed to improve air quality or combat climate change.
Prioritize your activities and make the air quality management process easier.
Encourage the planned implementation of existing plans as well as new activities.
