Glenview, IL., USA – (February 3, 2022) – For a fourth year, the Village of GlenviewRecognizing local organizations that lead in environmental stewardship, innovative best practice and community outreach is one of our goals.
The awards will be formally presented by the Village Board of Trustees as part of the Village’s Environment & Natural Resources Commission’s Environmental Sustainability Awards program.
From January 1st to October 15th 2021, nominations could be made from any organization that serves the Glenview community, including businesses, schools and houses of worship. Three categories were considered for nominations: Innovation, Leadership, Education and Outreach.

Innovation:
- Intrinsic Landscaping
Intrinsic Landscaping in Glenview is a Glenview-based landscaping firm that specializes on designing and building green roofs and walls. They have worked on many projects in Chicago. - MFNS Tech, Inc.
MFNS Tech, Inc., a startup company, has developed a new nanotech product that can also be added to.
Oil spillage cleanup foams and sponges This product can be used to treat oil-contaminated water with better results. Glenview residents were the founders. - Princeton Village Homeowners Association
Princeton Village residents started a project in response to the need to increase habitats for the monarch butterfly. They repurposed an area where trees had been removed due to disease. They planted the area with native plants that included varieties of milk weed that are key to the monarch’s life cycle. - Ten Ninety Brewing Co.
Ten Ninety Brewing Company in Glenview is a Glenview craft brewery that developed a process to keep their brewing byproducts out of the waste stream. The brewing waste is sent to a farm where it is used in livestock feed. The brewery then purchases the meat from the farm to complete the cycle.
Education and Outreach
- Collective Resource Compost
Collective Resource Compost is an Evanston-based food scrap hauling business that has been serving Glenview residents and businesses since 2013. They help people compost their food scraps. Since 2010, they have diverted over 1000 tons of food scraps, and 8,000 tons in the past year. They educate people about composting, how to use their program, and do outreach via Zoom and in person to help people understand the basics of composting. - Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County
SWANCC’s Recycling and Education coordinator educates people in the agency’s 23 member communities on recycling information. SWANCC provided education via Zoom and in-person to communities during the pandemic. The organization also worked hard to increase the number and types of materials that can be recycled in the community.
Leadership:
- Friends of Downtown Glenview
Friends of Downtown Glenview teamed up with Friends of the Chicago River in order to create a new cleanup area in downtown Glenview. They worked closely with village staff to establish the cleanup site. - The Glenview Park District, the Straus, Hurvis, and Beck Families
The Judy Beck Grant program was developed and supported by the Beck, Hurvis, Straus Families, and Glenview Park District. The program awarded six grants this year, including funding monarch butterfly habitat, compost awareness and The Grove’s food forest. Judy Beck was a member on the Environment and Natural Resources Commission. - Greenwise Organic Lawn Care & Landscaping
Greenwise is an organic lawncare business that practices natural lawncare. They use less-invasive lawn equipment that runs on propane and electric power. This is quieter than traditional gas-powered equipment. They also host outreach activities to educate the public about natural lawn care and how native plant can improve the ecosystem.
The Village encourages local businesses to adopt practices that reduce pollution, reduce waste and conserve energy. This will help reduce air and water emissions and increase recycling. These sustainability challenges can be met at home, at work, and in schools.
The Village wants to highlight success stories from the community so others can be encouraged to share strategies and procedures.
