The Honourable Bernard Davis has announced the following events related to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of Environmental Protection Act.
REGISTERED UNDERTAKINGS
Deer Lake Municipal Park and Campground (Reg. 2194)
Proponent: Deer Lake Park Limited
The proposal is to expand the existing municipal campground and RV park located in the Town of Deer Lake. Park expansion would include the creation of a 3.6-hectare section within the existing park; an additional 9.7-hectare parcel adjacent to the park; as well as the 10.1-hectare island at Humber River’s mouth. Accommodations include RV sites, tenting areas, cabins, geodesic domes, treehouses, and geodesic domes. The work would include tree clearing, the installation of infrastructure for electricity, water, and sewer services, as well construction of access roads to the island and a suspension bridge. The undertaking was registered April 13, 2022. Public comment is due May 19, 2022. The minister’s decision is due May 28, 2022.
Middle Brook Fishway Refurbishment (Reg. 2195)
Proponent: Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada
The proposal is to renovate an existing fishway in Middle Brook at Gambo, to allow for continued operation and salmon migration upstream to their spawning grounds. Construction activities include new water control structures, refurbishment and replacement of damaged fishway walls, as well as the replacement of the concrete stop log sill. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT REQUIRED
St. Lewis River Atlantic Salmon Habitat Enhanced Project (Reg. 2032)
Atlantic Rivers Outfitting Company
The minister advised the applicant that an environmental impact report (EIS) be prepared.
The project will require additional information. Additional information is required to inform the minister.
The following are some of the details, including but not limited to: purpose and rationale of the project; potential impacts on existing upstream species, habitat, and a quantitative assessment of salmon and other species; details of fishway design; plans for long term monitoring, maintenance and contingencies, including financial considerations; and, location of human receptors as well as potential effects on traditional land-use and resource activities. The minister will be assisted in the preparation of the EIS by an Environmental Assessment Committee (EAC). This committee will provide technical and scientific advice.
