South East Water’s 25 Year Environment Plan Draft: Have your say

Comment now on the PLAN South East Water’s water supplier for the next 25-years to protect the environment

The draft 25-year Environment Plan is the most comprehensive ever written by any water company. It also includes contributions from customers and employees.

The plan will not only outline how the drinking water company will reduce its impact on the environment from where it draws its raw water, but also how it will improve the environment’s overall health and increase its resilience against the effects of flooding, drought, and increased demand for tap water.

The company supplies drinking water to over 2.2 million customers in the south east. It has 83 water treatment plants and 9,000 miles of underground pipe. There are also 33 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, 33 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and two local nature reserves, the Lullington Heth National Nature Reserve, and many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The water supplier works with farmers, landowners, and other water users to preserve the quality and quantity the rivers and underground water aquifers that are used to produce an average daily consumption of 520 million litres.

The company is looking to expand its work as an environmental expert in-house to collaborate with other local businesses and individuals to improve the environment over the course of a generation.

Emma Goddard is the head of environment at South East Water. She stated: Although our environment faces ever-increasing risks from climate change and population growth we also know that lasting, positive change takes time. That’s why we took action to create the first 25-year Environment Plan for the water industry.

We also know the changing environment pressures and will be reviewing this plan every five years. This ensures that we are always looking ahead for the next quarter of century.

We are a fresh water supply company that relies on water. It is important that we ensure that our operations do not negatively impact the environment.
