LAFAYETTE, Ind. LAFAYETTE (Ind.) The transformation of the Columbian Park lagoon earnedLafayette Parks & Recreation an annual Tree Lafayette award and two other entities dedicated towards helping the environment.
Tree Lafayette awardedCustom Cuts Lawn care with the Preservation Award for planting and conserving trees around Lafayette. Tipmont EnviroWatts received the Presidents Award.
Tree Lafayette, who was presenting Parks andRecreation with the Environmental Award, noted that the lagoon has been upgraded. It features a “strategically designed gravel filter layer and native plants coupled with an aerationsystem that will sustain high water quality.”
Parks and Recreation collaborated with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and Purdue Forestry and Natural Resources Department for the creation of the sustainable ecosystem in this lagoon.
Custom Cuts Lawn Care planted trees on the company’s property at 3805 S 18th St., which is considered an urban landscape. The landscape company also removed invasive plants around the Wabash River Promenade, which is located in downtown.
Tipmont EnviroWatts supports trees and the environment by allowing members to donate $5 each month on their electric bill to support environmental projects in the area. The fund will grant grants to non-profit organizations within the Tipmont service region.
The grants, which totaled $784,099, were established in 2003. They were awarded to many environmentally conscious projects.
Tree Lafayette is thankful to bring light and support these extraordinary organizations this past year,” the organization released.
